DSU Bylaws Section II

Membership Requirements

1. Interest and dedication directed toward providing an important and necessary volunteer service to the community, Maricopa County and the State of Arizona.

2. At no time will this unit use an applicant's origion, sex, religion or race as a consideration for membership.

3. All members and applicants must be U.S. citizen, 18 years of age, in a state of physical condition so as not to endanger their own health, or place an added burden upon this unit while in the performance of any assigned task.

4. Applicants must attend three meetings before they will be considered for membership in Desert Search Unit.

5. Applicants must submit a fully completed application to the commander for review. The commander will notify new applicants as to the date, time and place of their appointment to appear before oral review board. (ref. Section IV)

A. An applicant will be given, upon acceptance by the oral review board, a posse sponsorship request form to initiate processing by MCSO.

B. The applicant will be required to pay an initiation fee when accepted by the oral review board. Monthly dues originate at this point. If, for any reason, the applicant is rejected by MCSO, all dues will be refunded. The initiation fee will not be refunded.

6. All applicants must agree to a formal background check by MCSO prior to acceptance.

7. An applicant will be considered a bonafide member upon the issuance of their identification card and will be elgible to carry a badge after completion of qualied armed posse member training.
