Crete

The Palace at Knossos is from the Minoan Civilization. It conjures up images of the Labyrinth and the Minatour a half man half bull Beast that dwelled within the Labyrinth. There is speculation that the Minoan Civilization is the advanced civilization that populated Atlantis, the Lost Continent mentioned in Plato's writings. No one is sure just how and why the Minoan disappeared so utterly and completely except that it is surely related to the cataclysmic eruption of the Santorini volcano, the most violent volcanic blast in the last 10,000 years.

My imagination ran wild with the possibilities. Our Historian Guide who led us through the palace maze was convinced that Crete and Santorini were both part of Atlantis with Santorini sinking beneath the sea and the main population on Crete wiped out by volcanic ash and fires.
