We stayed at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge in this area. Baboons were racing about on the roof of the lodge creating quite a racket. Fortunately they settled themselves after sunset.
A musical group played after dinner in the small open-air arena on the property. I was beat from another long day of game drives, so I retired early. Leaving my windows open, I fell asleep to the soft rhythms of African drums.
Giraffe and white rhino were plentiful on the plains in this area as well as various antelope and hyena. We must have missed seeing a kill because we witnessed a jackal racing across the plain with the hindquarter of a small antelope in its mouth.
In contrast to the activity on the plains, large buildings on the nearby highlands portend ominously of mans encroachment onto this ecosystem which suddenly seemed very fragile.
These giraffes hit each other by swinging their heads in great circles in an activity called jostling.
The lakes to the northwest of Nairobi are home to millions of flamingoes. Whether viewing from close up or at a distance, the sight is amazing.
We were fortunate enough to see this "pink" Lake framed by a rainbow.
The baboons of Lion Hill bid us farewell as we headed south to the Masai Mara.
