"Arequip', Arequip'. Arequip-aahh!" was the call from the clerks at the many bus cmpanies at the central Puno bus station. Each trying to outshout each other for a last minute fare to Peru's second largest city. We boarded around 4PM and arrived in Arequipa at 9:10PM where we were picked up and chauffered to the El Cabildo Hotel in a quiet neighborhood outside the city center. We quickly settled in and headed for a light supper in the hotel dining room before retiring for the evening.
This was a quick stop for us. We were heading out to the Colca Canyon fairly early the next morning. We would pack an overnight bag and leave our luggage at the Cabildo for when we returned two days later.
