This is the only figure etched into the side of a mountain making it the only upright figure. These figures were first discovered by pilots in the 1920s. Apparantly this figure was not named until the 1960s or later. When somebody decided that the round head was actually a helmut and suggested that this may be an depiction of an interplanetary visitor gave rise to the whole UFO connection and the possibility that the Nazca Lines were signals to ancient astronauts. Far fetched but fun musings.
