This is the riddle of the Sphinx. The Sphinx dates back to Egyptian and Greek times. in Greek mythology the sphinx was holding a city hostage until someone could answer that riddle. The one who did was the hero Oddyseus. Whe he finally did Teh sphinx killed herself out of despair that anyone could answer her riddle.
